That is, we are looking for a smart, driven Director of Engineering to lead and develop the engineering team. In this role, you will:
● Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
● Collaborate with executive leadership to define and execute the software engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with Proprio’s business goals and regulatory requirements.
● Drive continuous improvement in software development processes, ensuring scalability, reliability, and quality.
● Oversee the design, development, testing and deployment of software solutions for surgical navigation systems, including embedded systems, real-time imaging, and user interfaces.
● Ensure integration of AI/ML algorithms, imaging pipelines, and hardware components into cohesive and robust solutions.
● Work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineering, product management, and clinical research, to deliver products that exceed customer expectations.
● Ensure all software development activities comply with applicable medical device standards (e.g., IEC 62304, FDA Design Controls, CE).
● Establish robust testing, validation, and documentation processes to meet regulatory requirements and ensure patient safety.
● Recruit, retain, and develop top engineering talent, building a diverse and high-performing team.
● Provide hands-on technical guidance to solve complex engineering challenges, particularly in real-time imaging, robotics, and distributed systems.
● Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to maintain Proprio’s competitive edge.
To be qualified for this role, you will have:

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly understand and explain complex concepts in a simple and concise manner.
● Bachelor’s degree or higher from a college or university, or similarly developmental and distinguished life experience.
● The ability to successfully work onsite in Seattle.
● Experience with regulatory standard IEC 62304
● Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and the implementation of security protocols
● Familiarity with SOC 2 compliance requirements and best practices

o Salary Range: $250,000- $325,000 based on experience. Our compensation philosophy is to bring people into new roles in the range of the mid-point of that role. Factors considered for pay include the level of skill, experience, training, external market factors, and internal equity.
